Montabert, a world leader in hydraulic breaker technology, has launched the new V3500 model, filling out the Montabert range of automatic two-speed breakers (V1800 / V2500 / V3500 / V4500). The V3500 hydraulic breaker can be mounted on excavators from 35 to 60 tonnes. The V3500 works with an automatic two-speed system designed for high productivity work on homogeneous rock surfaces, including civil engineering applications and secondary breaking in quarries and mines.

The automatic two-speed variation system is exclusive and patented by Montabert. It allows the hammer to automatically select the operating mode depending on the hardness of the material it encounters, resulting in unmatched productivity. The Montabert V3500 breaker offers all the technological innovations and industry required features that have made the Montabert range of hydraulic breakers the leading products in their market. In common with all other Montabert breakers, the V3500 model offers superior productivity, reliability and durability, a high power to weight ratio, easy maintenance, a long life span and a high resale value.
The V3500 works with a maximum input power of 93 kW. A hydraulic flow of 320 l/min provides a frequency of 850 blows per minute at an operating pressure of 175 bars. The V3500 offers true overflow protection as a standard. The robust, heavy duty housing and large retainer pins allow the V3500 to work with large tools of 175 mm diameter. The standard version of the V3500 breaker is silenced, and it can be equipped
with a pressurisation circuit for underwater work.

The Montabert V3500 will be officially presented at Intermat 2012 and offered worldwide through the Montabert network made of more than 150 distributors.

R H Ovenden Ltd, the materials and waste recycling company based at Aylesham near Canterbury in Kent, has purchased a new Doosan DX225LC crawler excavator from Promac Solutions Ltd, the authorised Doosan dealer for South East England. The reasons for purchasing the new DX225LC excavator include the high productivity, operator comfort, safety and low maintenance offered by the machine. The new DX225LC is based at the Ovenden transfer station at Tilmanstone, where the machine sorts and stockpiles materials such as construction waste, hardcore, concrete, soil, metals and wood brought to the site by customers or in the company’s own fleet of waste trucks and skips.

The excellent working range and lift capacities of the DX225LC contribute to the high productivity offered by the excavator. One of the principal applications for the machine at Ovenden is for sorting, storing and reloading wood waste. With specifications that include a maximum digging reach at ground level of 9.3 m and a maximum dump height of 6.83 m, the DX225LC has the range to work quickly in and around the wood pile, both storing and unloading wood for recycling.

To meet Ovenden’s requirements, Promac Solutions fitted an additional rotation circuit to the DX225LC excavator so that it can operate a grab attachment to handle the wood waste. The machine’s operator, John Faithfull, uses the grab to stockpile the wood waste brought to the transfer station, before using the grab again to reload the wood from the pile into articulated trucks for onward supply to chipboard manufacturers. All of the features on the DX225LC combine to allow Mr Faithfull to fully load one of the articulated trucks in just 25 minutes.

The DX225LC is in continuous operation at the transfer station. When it is not handling the wood waste, the Geith quick hitch on the excavator allows Ovenden to change the grab to a shear attachment for reduction work on the concrete and other construction waste materials stored at the Tilmanstone depot.

With the number of hours the machine works, it is essential that an excavator of this type offers a comfortable, safe and productive environment for the operator and this formed an important part of the purchase decision made by Ovendens. Mr Faithfull has been very impressed with the operator comfort offered by the DX225LC and he says it is a pleasure to work with the machine.

Mr Faithfull is particularly impressed with the spacious cab on the new DX225LC which is fitted with an adjustable suspension seat with headrest and adjustable armrest as standard. He said: “The visibility from the cab is excellent, giving a full view all around the machine and of the tracks. The excavator is also fitted as standard with an on-board camera and the images from the camera are displayed on the control monitor, which gives me a clear view to the rear of the machine for increased safety when manoeuvring and reversing the machine in the tight confines of the depot.”

Mr Faithfull added: “The joystick controls on the DX225LC telescope up and down to suit my preferences and are simple to operate, making it easy to carry out precise machine movements, while supplementary buttons are available for control of additional equipment such as the grab and shear attachments.”

Operator fatigue is also minimised by the sound-suppressed cab, which keeps machine noise as low as possible. The noise level at the operator’s ear is 73 dBA while the noise level for bystanders is a very low 103 dBA.

Like all Doosan medium and heavy excavators, the DX225LC features an electronic power optimising system (EPOS) that maximises machine productivity while minimising fuel consumption. The EPOS connects the excavator’s hydraulic system and engine controls via a data transfer link. Advantages include the availability of a power mode and a normal operating mode for maximum efficiency under all conditions; electronic control of fuel consumption; automatic deceleration for even more fuel savings; and regulation and precise control of the hydraulic flow rate required by various machine components.

R H Ovenden Ltd was also attracted by the increased uptime offered by the long maintenance intervals and easy access to service points on the DX225LC excavator. Low maintenance features include centralized grease inlets, wide side access doors for cleaning radiators and coolers, boom pivot bushings with greasing intervals of 250 hours, bucket pins with greasing intervals of 50 hours and a large-capacity engine air precleaner that removes more than 99 percent of airborne particles and extends filter cartridge service life.

The DX225LC is the latest addition to the fleet of equipment at R H Ovenden Ltd, which offers a range of services including waste removal; construction/demolition waste recycling; skip hire; plant hire and the supply of building materials. Products recycled and ready for reuse include hardcore and concrete crushed to 75mm 6f2 certificates for resale; soils screened along with the company’s own as dug topsoil and certificated for resale and concrete fines. Road planings and quarried aggregates for sale include ‘as dug’ chalk and type 1 sand, sharp sand and ballast.

R H Ovenden Ltd was established in 1966 by the late Robin Ovenden with just one lorry. It is one of a number of Ovenden companies that together provide a comprehensive range of services to both the construction and agriculture industries. These range from large scale haulage and plant hire operations to demolition and agriculture solutions.

The DX225LC from Doosan meets all the performance and long service life requirements at Ovenden which prides itself on the maintenance and care of the plant in the company’s fleet. Mo Ovenden, who is a joint Director of the business with her brother, Alex, said: “As well as the depot at Tilmanstone which opened in 1997, we also run two inert landfill sites and two chalk pits and, even though they are worked hard like the Doosan DX225LC, some of the equipment has been working at these sites for many years, including a Priestman excavator dating from the 1970s, which is a testament to how well we look after our machines.”

For more information about the services offered by R H Ovenden Ltd, visit the website at www.ovendens.com

Back up for the new machine is provided by Berkshire-based Promac Solutions Ltd, the local authorised dealer for the full range of Doosan products, including crawler and wheeled excavators, wheel loaders and articulated dump trucks. Promac covers the central Southern England region including London and the home counties, Kent, Essex, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Surrey, Sussex, Middlesex, Hertfordshire and Hampshire.

Doosan Infracore Construction Equipment (DI CE) rise to sixth place in global top fifty
DOOSAN Infracore Construction Equipment (DI CE), the global alliance of construction brands that includes Doosan, Bobcat and Doosan Moxy, have risen to sixth place in a newly published global league of the world’s leading construction equipment manufacturers.
Compiled by UK-based KHL Ltd and published in the magazine ‘International Construction’, the new, up-to-date tabulation gives 2010 turnover figures for the world’s top 50 construction equipment manufacturers and shows growth in sales at DI CE has taken the company into sixth place in 2010.
Much of the growth at DI CE has been overseen by new chief executive officer, Anthony C. Helsham, who was appointed in April 2010. Mr Helsham commented: ‘2010 was an excellent year for DI CE with a turnover of US$ 5.232 billion, compared with a 2009 figure of US$ 3.288 billion.
‘Doosan were also the only company in the top six manufacturers to produce 2010 sales figures that were larger than those recorded for 2008. The company is well on the way to achieving its goal of being a top player in the global construction equipment industry.’
In 2010, DI CE recorded a 59% increase in sales, due not only to a greater contribution from profitable markets such as China and Korea, but also from improvements throughout the business around the globe.
Unit sales of Doosan heavy equipment including excavators, wheel loaders and articulated dumptrucks in China leapt 72% in 2010, compared with 2009, while in the joint Asia Pacific and Emerging Markets sector, the number of heavy equipment products sold in 2010 was more than 86% higher than the figure for 2009.
Sales of heavy equipment also increased in the EMEA region, where business expanded by more than 55% compared with 2009, and in the heavy excavator market, in particular, the company’s share of the market grew by 16%.
